Introducing new products from Angel City Audio - 7/19/2010

Angel City Audio, owned by Hugh Nguyen, is the North American Distributor for the Onix and Melody brands, but he has been hard at work on some new products of hisown.  The first project is almost at the finish line, and the result is a set of stand-mounted LCR speakers in two versions: deep and shallow.  the deeper ones are meant to be used up front, with the greater cabinet volume allowing better bass extension, and the shallower model makes a great center channel and surround speaker.  Of course depending on your space requirements, either model can be used in any position.

The new speakers have reached what I'm calling "release candidate" stage, and are making their way around the country from dealer to dealer, so that we can all hear them and give feedback before they go into production.  After stops in Colorado and Michigan, my turn will be this weekend, and they will then be headed to North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, and California before the demo tour ends and production begins.  Stay tuned for more news, as well as reviews and impressions from the demo tour.

Melody Valve Hifi is here! Let the tubey awesomeness begin... - 5/4/2010

Melody is a company that has been doing tube amplifiers and doing them well for quite a while.  The most familiar products are their cheaper offerings built for Onix such as the SP3/SP8 and the H34 a few years back.  Those were massive overachievers at their price points, and have the many glowing reviews to back it up.  Now, the entire beautiful looking AND sounding Melody lineup is available through East Street Audio and the other dealers in out network.  Check out some eye candy below and drop a line if you have any questions or want to own one of these beauties.

Onix XCD-50 & XIA-160 Reviewed by Stereo Mojo - 2/16/2010
"The XCD-50 had a lower noise floor than my reference combo with a much more refined sound and able to handle complex music passages with ease.  The sound stage had great depth, the width and height was  about the same as my reference but the depth was much better with instruments being more defined and lifelike. All in all the XCD-50 was the hands down winner making me rethink my source ($$$)."

"The bass was tight, the amp grabbed hold of my woofers and would not  let go.  The highs were smooth and extended with no grain; man this amp is fast.
"

Marvin Bolden - Stereo Mojo

Thanks to Stereo Mojo and Marvin Bolden for the nice writeup, as well as Hugh Nguyen and Nhan Hoang for getting the gear over there.  Check out the review here.   :thumb:
